Leslie C. Sotomayor-Zoebisch is a Women’s Studies and Art concurrent major with a concentration in painting at Penn State University.  Recipient of the Women’s Studies Laura Richardson Whitaker Award, Spring 2011  feminist scholarship art series In Transition.  Her artwork is also featured through the e-journal “Transcending Silence….” in her series Let Me Bloom.  She also contributes to the bilingual campus newsletter, OYE!
I am passionate about feminist scholarship represented through art forms, reflecting my lived life experiences and cultural differences. Born in the United States,  my cultural background is Puerto Rican and Cuban.
Learning about Latin America and the Caribbean is fascinating and provides a deeper understanding of my own history and the world I live in.  Through these different experiences of academic life, personal experiences and my family life I am able to not only create a conversation with my peers but also with the world outside myself.  Issues that are relevent in my life, may also be relevent to someone else’s and in turn may create a space of conversation.
